*This class will run for 3 hours each day, Monday through Thursday.*

GRADES 9–12: The Carnegie Center Filmmaking workshop is an exciting creative experience for high school students. Do you have an interest in filmmaking? Are you passionate about storytelling? If so, then the Filmmaking workshop is for you. The workshop is a week-long program designed for high school students to gain an understanding of visual storytelling and the fundamentals of film production. Students will learn about various film forms, including documentary filmmaking and narrative storytelling. Students will create two short films by the end of the week.

Topics Covered: Fundamentals of Filmmaking – Camera and Sound Basics – Storyboarding and Basics of Screenwriting – Documentary Filmmaking – Video Editing – Using Premiere Pro

Thomas Southerland is a filmmaker and educator from Lexington, Kentucky. A graduate of AFI, he’s taught Screenwriting, and various Film Production courses for many years. His documentaries and fiction films have screened at numerous films festivals and won a few awards.  He currently teaches filmmaking at Eastern Kentucky University.
