Whether you aspire to be a blogger, op-ed writer or the author of a “big thinker” book that spurs social change, the key lies in getting your reader to see the issue through your eyes. By analyzing examples of powerful persuasive writing, you will learn how readers evaluate your position and how you can change their minds. Students may submit a draft of their writing for class discussion and may request one private working session with the instructor at no additional cost.

Darlene Ricker, a former opinion writer and editor for the Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times, is a Lexington-based nonfiction writer. She has authored and edited opinion-based books, one of which earned a $100,000 advance from a major publishing house and was featured on The Today Show. Her current project is a book adaptation of a controversial documentary currently airing on Netflix.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
The Carnegie Center reserves the right to cancel a class if minimum enrollment is not met. It is best to register early to help our instructors prepare and to ensure the class does not get cancelled. We evaluate registration numbers 6–2 business days before a class starts to decide whether we can hold the class. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment will be cancelled six–two business days prior to the first class meeting. All participants will be notified by email and will receive full refunds
