Students will learn to develop, outline, and learn professional formatting of screenwriting. During the course, students will learn why and how screenwriting form came into being, as they develop their own original stories and write the first scenes of a feature film or short. Using clips and provided screenplays as reference materials, students will also examine how audience expectations can inform and inspire stories that they want to tell for the screen. Students will be asked to screen an assigned film and screenplay in advance of the first class meeting.

Required Materials/Utilities: a laptop computer, hi-speed internet and wifi; screenwriting software, which can be obtained for free online.

This class is suitable for beginning screenwriters.
