SUMMARY:Prosing Your Way Through Poetry: Writing the Prose Poem with Marianne Worthington
DESCRIPTION:The prose poem as we know it today was “invented” as a type of subversive activity; to escape the rules of strict meter and rhyme that defined most poetry in the 19th century. Today the prose poem\, while not broken into lines of verse\, uses other techniques unique to poetry such as image\, metaphor\, and sound. \nThis generative workshop\, conducted over a two-hour Zoom class period\, will allow us to explore and experiment in writing prose poems and other forms that are constructed using blocks of prose\, such as the haibun. Suitable for all writers\, these classes can strengthen our skills as a poet\, memoirist\, and/or storyteller. \nThis class is suitable for all levels. \nMarianne Worthington is the author of two poetry collections\, an editor\, and an educator who lives\, writes and teaches in southeastern Kentucky. \nONLINE: Tuesday\, February 17\, 6:00–8:00 PM • $35.00 [ALL LEVELS] \n
