Youth Poet Laureate*: From Page to Stage

GRADES 9–12: This course is designed to encourage students to improve their skills in both writing and performing poetry. Students will discuss what makes award-winning poetry and will be given opportunities to improve their work and public speaking voice.

*The Youth Poet Laureate program for Lexington, KY is a partnership with Urban Word, founders of the National Youth Poet Laureate Program. This course is open to all teens.

Beaux Hardin is an Undergraduate Poet and Research Scholar and Gaines fellow at the University of Kentucky. They are studying English Creative Writing and French. In 2024, they’ve recently won the UKY Farquhar Award for Poetry, 1st Place in the UKY Oswald Research and Creativity Competition for Poetry, the Sigma Tau Delta LGBTQ 2nd Place for Poetry, and the UKY Summer Undergraduate Research Award to study poetry. They want to help make education more accessible for marginalized communities.
