Fall 2024 – Writing Op-eds and Guest Essays presents: An Evening with Scott Colby

Scott Colby, the Opinion Editor at Canada’s largest daily newspaper, the Toronto Star, will speak November 12 about writing publishable op-eds.

In a Zoom presentation from 5:30 to 7 p.m., students will learn what makes a good op-ed and what pitfalls to avoid. Scott will explain how to write two types of opinion pieces: a persuasive op-ed on an issue of public relevance, and a first-person op-ed (memoir) about a significant personal experience. A question and answer session will follow. An acclaimed speaker and writing coach, Scott is the author of the book “That’s What You Think: A Practical Guide to Writing Compelling Op-Eds and Short Memoirs.” Learn what students say about his presentations: coachcolby.me.

Hosted by Darlene Ricker as a follow-up to her Fall 2024 class, “Writing Op-eds and Guest Essays.”
