Writing History: Yours and Others’- Summer 2022

This class will explore how writers of fiction and nonfiction capture vibrant history on the page. Through prompts, examples, and discussion,
participants will discover methods for writing effective dialogue without “historical-ese,” learn tips for connecting characters from the past
with present-day readers, craft era-appropriate scenes, and explore innovative research methods.

Jessica Handler directed the Writing Minor at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, and lectures internationally on writing. Her historical novel, The Magnetic Girl, is the winner of the 2020 Southern Book Prize, a Wall Street Journal pick, and an Indie Next List pick.
