Tropes in Genre: How to Respect and Reinvent the Wheel – Fall 2023

This class will explore the history of tropes and cliches and go over the most popular and successful examples of tropes in genre fiction. We’ll also take time to experiment with tropes of our own in a writing activity, testing a “vanilla” draft and a “reinvention” draft. Let’s improve and explore our work together!

Darian Bianco holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the Bluegrass Writers Studio and a certificate from the 2022-2023 Carnegie Center Author’s Academy, and her novel-in-progress Chatter was one of five winners for issue six of Novel Slices, to be published August 2023.

This class is suitable for beginners.
