Sci-Fi & Fantasy Writing Group – Fall 2024

This class will combine lectures, readings, and critical discussions of student work. While focusing on the short form, novel extracts will also be considered. Each week, students will read a provided contemporary speculative fiction piece for discussion. There will be brief guided writing sessions during class time. A round robin critique session of student work will conclude each class, and instruction and guidance on where and how to submit stories for publication will be provided.

Christopher Rowe is an experienced teacher of science fiction and fantasy. He has been a finalist for the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards, as well as others. His stories have been published, reprinted, and translated around the world. He is the author of two recent critically acclaimed novellas published by Tor and his collection, Telling the Map, is widely regarded as one of the best of recent years.

This class is suitable for writers of all levels.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

The Carnegie Center reserves the right to cancel a class if minimum enrollment is not met. It is best to register early to help our instructors prepare and to ensure the class does not get cancelled. We evaluate registration numbers 62 business days before a class starts to decide whether we can hold the class. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment will be cancelled six–two business days prior to the first class meeting. All participants will be notified by email and will receive full refunds
