Revise Your Short Stories Using Reverse Outlines- Summer 2022
If you’ve ever found yourself stuck during the revision of a short story—unsure of where to begin, lost in the middle, or still unsatisfied after
multiple attempts—then reverse outlining might be useful. This is a simple, customizable technique to help you “re-see” your story from a
new perspective so you can better assess what it needs. This will be an interactive class where we’ll practice reverse outlining after learning the basics, so you’ll need to bring a completed short story (preferably under 8,000 words) that’s in need of revision.
Ashley Blooms is the author of two novels, Where I Can’t Follow and Every Bone a Prayer, along with several short stories, and revision is her favorite part of the writing process.
This class is suitable for all levels.
