Poetry in Place – Winter 2021

Poetry is often used to describe awe-inspiring views and vistas. Poets often sing of their travels across the world and the country through their verse. It is the language of beauty that can be hard to describe. But what happens to the exploration of place in poetry when there’s a pandemic in full swing and travel is removed from the equation? Poetry in Place will be a course intended to explore imagery that may be seen as mundane. This course explores the everyday experiences of a complicated world and will address how poets tend to the setting around them through imagery and attention to detail. For all levels.

Misty Skaggs is an author, artist, and activist from the backwoods of Eastern Kentucky. Her work reflects radical redneck sensibilities passed down through Appalachian generations.
