Character Motivation – Fall 2022

THIS CLASS HAS REACHED CAPACITY.

The simple formula for plot: give your character a desire and then prevent them from obtaining that desire until they change. But people are more complicated and now more than ever readers desire characters that they can relate to–or characters who challenge their world views. We’ll thoroughly examine character motivation and explore exercises that will help your characters jump off the page. Good for fiction and nonfiction authors.

Elizabeth Kilcoyne is an author of spooky books about dead things, including her YA Gothic Horror novel, Wake the Bones (2022, Wednesday Books). She currently lives in Lexington.

This class is suitable for all levels.
