Creative Writing Teen Retreat

Attention teen writers! Join us for this one-of-a-kind retreat for the next great generation of writers! You’ll work with talented writers, spend free time putting your pen to paper in an inpiring environment, and get to know peers who share similar passions! Workshop leaders include: Sarah Combs (winner of the Gotham Writers’ Workshop 2010 Young Adult Novel Discovery Contest and the 2011 She Writes’ YA Novel Contest), Cynthia Ellingsen (author of The Whole Package), and Frankie Finley (former editor of Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel Contemporary Appalachian Literature). Please bring your own lunch both days.

Writing an Awesome College Essay

Are you entering your senior year of high school and need help starting – or finishing – your college application essay? We’ll discuss college essays (for individual applications and the Common Application), learn useful tips, and evaluate and discuss actual college essays. You’ll have a chance to brainstorm ideas for your own writing, receive one-on-one feedback from the instructor, and ask those essay questions that you’ve had on your mind. Students should bring writing materials and/or laptop, applications including essay questions, a resume or activity list, and a lunch.
