Creative Nonfiction for Teens

Attention, teen writers! Do you have a story about your own life that you want to tell? Do you want to experiment with writing creative nonfiction, but aren’t sure what to write about? In this workshop, we’ll brainstorm on writing essays about everything from the big events in life to the tiny ones, explore storytelling skills that create effective nonfiction, and sort out all the sub-genres of creative nonfiction.

Poetry is all around us, from the quiet sounds of nature to the rhythm of your walk to billboards, commercials and the chaos of life. Writer, artist and blogger Brooke Harris will introduce you to several fun prompts to get the creative side of your brain thinking about the world around you in a new way—in the sounds, images and style of poetry. Offered in collaboration with the Lexington Public Library. NOTE: These workshops take place at the Central & Tates Creek branches of the Lexington Public Library.
