Carnegie Center volunteers are the change. Tutors inspire a love for learning in their students. Classroom assistants are wholeheartedly present as a child reads aloud her first short story. Event and Family Fun & Learning helpers take part in creating memorable evenings that cultivate connections between artists and Kentuckians, parents and children, and foster an appreciation and love for the community. After finding your volunteer fit, please fill out and submit the volunteer application. We accept students and adults of all academic backgrounds because the most important thing is the passion and commitment a volunteer brings to Carnegie! Once submitted, our volunteer and/or tutoring directors will email you to discuss additional information about your volunteer experience.

Event Volunteers
From Gallery Hops to readings by Kentucky authors, Carnegie hosts a variety of different events throughout the year. Work “backstage” by helping event coordinators make sure the event runs smoothly and successfully! For more information about events held at Carnegie, click HERE.
Family Fun & Learning Nights
Celebrate family, community, & imaginative learning by volunteering to be a helper at a Family Fun & Learning Night! Volunteers needed from 4:30-7:30 pm to help run kid-friendly crafts and activities, serve dinner to families, and help with clean-up.
Be A Tutor
Use an hour to empower! Carnegie Center hosts an on-site tutoring program supporting over 200 students and their dedicated tutors! Click HERE to learn more about the tutoring program and how to apply to become a tutor.
Classroom Assistants
Be part of the early learning process by volunteering with our pre-school & elementary reading and math groups! Volunteers needed to be assistants to the lead instructor, helping with executing lesson plans and classroom management.

Youth Programs & Volunteer Director
Jonathan Hall has three loves: language, theatre, and education. After earning an M.A. in Classics at the University of Kentucky, he began appearing on stage here locally. In the past year, he has performed as Ichabod Crane at Woodford Theatre, Julius Caesar for AppShakes (recently featured on KET’s KY Life), and Ed (in Curious Incident) for Studio Players. Professionally, for the last five years, he has travelled throughout Appalachia and Ohio helping students achieve their goals through improved testing and study strategies. Having taught thousands of students, he found that motivating and helping young people was his calling in life! Jonathan is very lucky to have found the Carnegie Center, a unique place in the world where he, and others like him, can integrate so many of their various, disparate interests. He currently lives in Lexington with his other three loves: partner Stacy, dog Clark, and cat Friday.
