With James B. Goode, Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame Coordinator.

This class focuses on writings by Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame inductees, using Morris Grubbs’ landmark short story anthology Home and Beyond as a text. Short fiction by Hall of Fame writers will comprise the axis for a discussion on how these writers apply elements of fiction and a taste of Kentucky to their works. The following writers and stories will be featured: Barbara Kingsolver’s “Homeland” (February); Gayl Jones’s “White Rat” (March); “Guy Davenport’s “Belinda’s World Tour” (April 1); and A. B. Guthrie’s “The Fourth at Getup” (April 29). The short stories listed above are required reading before each session. All of these stories are found in Home and Beyond by Morris Grubbs.
