Stories and Pictures from the Tutoring Program
Tutoring pair: Laura, 21 and Santhosh, 7
Laura (tutor): I love the one-on-one relationship. That continuity is what a lot of other programs I’ve worked with lack. Being able to come in every week over the course of the school year and work with Santhosh, I’ve gotten to see the progress he’s made in math. But I’ve also gotten to know him as a person. That’s helped me in preparing for our sessions…. The Carnegie Center made the whole tutoring process so easy. There are tons of resources in the tutoring room and the staff has been really helpful. It’s been a lot of fun!
Santhosh (student): I really like coming to the Carnegie Center. Laura helps me learn and it’s fun! We play games, like a math game where we rolled dice, added up the numbers on each one, and then moved that many spots ahead on the board. It was fun and it helped me a lot. Plus, I won!
Vigi (Santhosh’s mother): Santhosh has a couple of other programs he does, but he’s always asking when we are going back to the Carnegie Center. When it’s time to go, he flies to the car. He loves coming to his tutoring sessions.
Tutoring pairs: Two Sisters, Two Brothers (Michelle 17, RJ 9 and Caden 8, Maria,17)
Maria (tutor): It’s fun watching him improve over the course of the year. And the length of the program gives you a chance to get to know them better.
Caden (student): I like playing games with Maria. It helps me learn. My favorites are the games we play on the computer.
Michelle (tutor): It’s great. It’s a lot of fun, never boring, and we can come up with different ways to help them learn instead of only focusing on doing homework.
RJ (student): I like working on homework and playing games here. It’s fun. We do things like making this card for my mom for Mother’s Day.
Alisha (RJ and Caden’s mother): This is RJ and Caden’s first year, and it’s gone really well. They really like coming here. The tutors are flexible and willing to help. And you can’t beat the price!
